At the Detroit Flyhouse, we regularly host circus workshops and intensives on a variety of topics. From Aerial to Acro, Hooping to Fire, workshops offer a great way to augment and expand your knowledge! Intro to Silks and Hammock

Have you ever seen an Aerial performance and said to yourself “This looks so fun but I could never do that!” Maybe you’ve wanted to try it but didn’t know how or where to begin. Well Justin and Shawn are extremely excited to share with you an amazing experience for ANYONE age 7 and up! You’ll have two opportunities to sign up for this 90 minute workshop. Come explore the building blocks of Aerial Silks and Aerial Hammock on May 26st.

Open Fly - Family Friendly

Open Fly is open gym time for current students and those with aerial experience to practice aerial and acrobatic material that they are proficient in. A teacher is present however there is no formal instruction.

Kids Summer Circus Camp

July 17 through 19 @ 12pm

Kids will get out of the house and into the air at this summer day camp! Aerial arts, ground-based performance skills, and circus crafts will be included as kids challenge themselves in a fun, supportive learning environment. On the final day, participants will put on a performance demonstrating their new circus skills. Join the fun!

Single Pole Theory

Saturday August 4 @ 10am

Silk and/or rope (all levels). Vocabulary, climbing, and sequencing on single pole fabric. Making sequences that never end. Connecting the dots between wraps. Focused on transitions

De-mystifying Dive Rolls

Saturday August 4 @ 12:30pm

Silk and/or rope (all levels). Approaching falling forward, passive vs. active dives, trajectory, theory and wraps. A look at types of dives: dive roll drop method 'Around the World', spine extended dive roll, pike/layout dives sideways dives and puddling. Wraps and sequencing including dives. May include back dives.

Belay Sequencing and Drops

Saturday August 4 @ 3pm

Silk (Intermediate/Advanced). Some unique and new ways to approach belay, shaping, entries, exits, and drops.

Split Pole Theory

Sunday August 5 @ 10am

Silk (all levels). Split pole vocabulary, sequencing, unique wraps, and drops (all levels, with variations).

Climbs/Twists/Wraps

Sunday August 5 @ 12:30pm

Silk and/or rope (all levels). A teaser of exploring wraps that spiral. Twist and climb up the fabric, and then spiral down. Breaking the 3 dimensional rule and moving diagonally.

Shapes and Facets

Sunday August 5 @ 3pm

Silk and Hammock (Intermediate/Advanced). An analytical perspective on creativity. How to effectively separate positions, shaping, and wraps. Using the 8 essential knee hooks to define wrapping an dmoving. Creating rules to break the rules.
