Double Loops Duo Style!

Saturday September 7, 2019 5 - 6:30pm $35

In this workshop we will explore skills and connections a partner duo can perform on duo silk hammock loops. This is an all levels class that will be accessible to anyone wanting to explore aerial acrobatics with a partner. It is a unique exploration into Duo practice on a soft vertical apparatus with so many skills to explore that are solely unique to it, and many taking from skills that some students may find similar to solo double loops, or Hammock. Stack Drops 101 w Erikka Johnson

Sunday September 8, 2019 5 - 6:30pm $35

This workshop is designed to teach the principles of setting up stacked saulto drops on a solid base. This workshop will cover body positions to control forward rotation drops and how to complete multiple rotations. This workshop will focus on technique and correct form to reduce impact on the body and to control the rate of the drop. 

Prerequisites Must be able to comfortably straddle invert in the air Must have experience with at least one forward falling drop in straight fabrics Must want to play and have fun 

Bio..Erikka Johnson (Starlight Vigilante) Aerialist, teaching since 2015, background in Aerial Sling & Yoga with yoga alliance 200hr ytt certificate & aerial yoga teacher certificate. Specializing in Aerial Silks and ground Acrobatics. Local and international aerial performance experience, with stage show, ambient and busking show styles.

Always wanted to try that aerial stuff but not sure how to get started? Well this workshop is for you! We'll start from scratch and go from there. This is a safe and friendly workshop designed to make the basics of aerial arts accessible to total beginners, no matter your background. What are you waiting for?

Matt Buss has been a professional circus performer, circus coach and yoga instructor for over a decade. After graduating with a degree in philosophy from Michigan State University in 2005, he became a yoga instructor in metro Detroit, and quickly became known for his fun and easygoing teaching style, as well as his advanced asana and arm-balancing and inversions workshops. Matt began his career as a circus performer shortly after, teaching and performing solo and duo aerial acrobatics, partner and stilt acrobatics, and contortion with his wife and partner Micha Adams Buss. Matt is the head coach at the Detroit Flyhouse Circus School, which he and Micha own and operate. The Flyhouse has been teaching circus arts to students of all ages and backgrounds for over a decade and is Detroit's original circus school. Matt prides himself on making circus arts fun and accessible to folks of all ages and walks of life.

Open Fly is open gym time for current students and those with aerial experience to practice aerial and acrobatic material that they are proficient in. A teacher is present however there is no formal instruction.

Tightwire Walking for Beginners w Erin Garber-Pearson

Sunday November 17 2-3:30pm $50

Tight Wire Walking is a traditional circus art performed on a narrow metal cable under tension. It is a challenging mental and physical activity of balance and focus. This workshop will teach various steps, poses and techniques for fluid movement on a safe 2' wire above the ground, while being spotted by an instructor. This is a class for students interested in dance, posture, balance, and aligning brain with body. Wire dancing is as much about mental calm as it is physical stability. No prerequisites, all levels are welcome. Soft soled shoes such as ballet flats are highly recommended (available at payless or online for cheaper)

Erin Garber-Pearson is an aerialist, tightwire dancer, and visual artist. Erin started training aerial in her hometown, Tucson, Arizona in 2008 and has since trained in studios across the US. In 2015 she completed the Aloft Full Time Training program in Chicago where she focused on tightwire and rope. Erin is the owner of the Birds Eye View Circus studio in Toledo, Ohio and also teaches silks and rope at the Ann Arbor Aviary.
