Sara Duhaime became an aerial instructor at the Detroit Flyhouse Circus School in 2014. Since then, she has dedicated her time to developing herself as a performer and a coach. Forever a student, she has traveled near (and sometimes far) to train with talented coaches whenever possible. During her time at the Flyhouse, she has developed choreography classes on lyra, silks, and hammock. In addition to her classes in Detroit, she has been a guest teacher at other studios in Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Wyoming. Her multi-apparatus training has lent itself to creative ways of adapting movement from one apparatus to another when creating content for classes and choreographing routines. Her favorite thing about the aerial arts is its built-in community.

The Expression and Movement Workshop with Danielle Gamelin

Saturday November 2, 2019 5 - 6:30pm $30

There is something elusive and memorable about all good performances. Universal to all of them is the quality of the performers' connection with the audience. Performers, from all disciplines, have the unique opportunity to create these memorable performances by elevating their learning how to express emotion and tell a story through movement.

The Expression and Movement Workshop focuses participants on connecting with their bodies to accomplish this. Participants will begin to learn where movement originates in the body and how to give deeper meaning to every facial expression, arm or leg extension, and head turn. This workshop is open to all performers of all levels.

Danielle has been a Competitive Ice Dancer for 13 years (on Team USA for 2 years), Awarded the Haley Rose Gans Trophy for artistry in performance in 2011 and 2013, and a Physical performer for Detroit Circus and Opus Mime for close to 5 years.

Tightwire Walking for Beginners w Erin Garber-Pearson

Tight Wire Walking is a traditional circus art performed on a narrow metal cable under tension. It is a challenging mental and physical activity of balance and focus. This workshop will teach various steps, poses and techniques for fluid movement on a safe 2' wire above the ground, while being spotted by an instructor. This is a class for students interested in dance, posture, balance, and aligning brain with body. Wire dancing is as much about mental calm as it is physical stability. No prerequisites, all levels are welcome. Soft soled shoes such as ballet flats are highly recommended (available at payless or online for cheaper)
