The Story of Detroit Flyhouse: A Legacy in Motion
A Circus Community Takes Flight
Detroit Flyhouse grew from a love of circus arts and a desire to bring creativity, movement, and play to Detroit. Beginning in 2008, Micha Adams helped build a circus community where people could discover aerial arts, develop new skills, and experience the joy of doing things they never thought possible.
What began as a passion for circus grew into something bigger: a place for students, performers, and curious beginners to come together. Through Detroit Circus and the Flyhouse circus school, Micha helped bring circus entertainment and training to the Detroit community, creating opportunities for people of different ages and experience levels to explore the art of movement.
More Than a Studio
Over the years, Detroit Flyhouse became more than a place to learn aerial silks, trapeze, lyra, and other circus disciplines. It became a community shaped by the people who walked through its doors—the students who challenged themselves, the instructors who shared their knowledge, and the performers who brought their creativity to life.
Under Micha’s leadership, the studio developed a welcoming approach to circus training, where growth mattered more than perfection and students could build strength, confidence, and connection alongside their technical skills. That foundation continues to shape the Flyhouse experience today.
From Student to Instructor, Performer, and Owner
My own journey with Detroit Flyhouse has been a full-circle experience. What began as a connection to aerial arts grew into a deeper involvement with the studio—as a student, instructor, and performer—and eventually led me to the opportunity to become its owner.
Each step has given me a different appreciation for what makes this place special. I've experienced the challenge of learning something new, the excitement of sharing that knowledge with others, and the magic of watching a community grow around a shared passion.
When Micha entrusted me with the legacy of Detroit Flyhouse, I knew I wanted to honor what had been built while making room for new ideas, new opportunities, and the next generation of students and performers.
Honoring Our Roots, Growing Our Future
Today, Detroit Flyhouse enters its next chapter with deep gratitude for the people who brought it here. Micha's contribution to Detroit's circus community remains an important part of our story, and the relationships, traditions, and creative spirit cultivated over the years continue to guide us.
My vision is to keep the Flyhouse family alive—to preserve the welcoming, playful environment that makes this studio feel like home while continuing to grow our classes, workshops, performances, and community connections.
Whether you're an experienced aerialist, a longtime student, or someone who has never stepped onto an apparatus, there's a place for you here. Our story is still being written, and we're excited for you to be part of what comes next.
The Flyhouse has always been about its people. And that will never change.
Our Philosophy: Where Everyone Has Room to Fly
At Detroit Flyhouse, we believe aerial arts should be accessible to more than just experienced athletes and performers. As a welcoming aerial arts studio in Detroit’s Eastern Market, we want students to feel comfortable trying something new, asking questions, learning at their own pace, and celebrating progress without comparing themselves to others. Our instructors emphasize thoughtful technique, appropriate progressions, body awareness, and safety so students can build strength, confidence, and skills in a supportive environment. Whether you’re here for fitness, creative expression, or the thrill of circus arts, there’s room for you to find your own way.
What makes the Flyhouse different is the community that grows alongside the training. We value the friendships formed between classes, the encouragement students give one another, and the freedom to explore movement in a space where people can challenge themselves while still having fun. Students can enjoy aerial arts recreationally, develop their artistry, pursue performance opportunities, or eventually share their knowledge through teaching. We want the Flyhouse to be a place where people feel connected—not just to an apparatus or a skill, but to something bigger than themselves.
As we look to the future, our goal is to honor the community and creative spirit that have shaped Detroit Flyhouse while opening the doors to even more possibilities. We hope to expand opportunities for learning, collaboration, workshops, and performances while continuing to nurture an inclusive Detroit aerial community. Above all, we want every person who walks through our doors to leave feeling a little stronger, a little more confident, and excited to come back.

Owner · Detroit Flyhouse Circus School
My journey with Detroit Flyhouse has come full circle. What began with discovering aerial arts grew into a passion that led me from student to instructor and performer, and ultimately to becoming the owner of the studio. Having experienced the Flyhouse from so many perspectives, I know how special it is to find a place where you can challenge yourself, explore your creativity, and feel supported along the way.
When Micha entrusted me with this legacy, I knew I wanted to honor the community she helped build while creating new opportunities for students, performers, and instructors to grow. My favorite part of this journey is being part of the moments when someone surprises themselves—when a skill finally clicks, confidence grows, or a student discovers something they never thought they could do.
A Note from Jaclyn
“I want Detroit Flyhouse to feel like a place where you can show up exactly as you are, try something new, and find your people. Whether you dream of performing, want a creative new way to move, or are simply curious about getting off the ground, there is a place for you here.”
